Locums needed – Derby Hospital

By September 11, 2018Newsletter

Derby Hospital is very keen to engage even short term Advanced DRANZCOG level locums to help keep the service going.

The medical team in Derby is friendly and supportive. The hospital employs anaesthesia / obstetrics and non-procedural GP/ED. Mostly permanent, but are reliant on locum relief to fill gaps. The town has an RFDS base, an Aboriginal medical service but no private general practice – GP services are run through the hospital outpatient department Mon-Fri. The hospital itself has staff support for 22 acute care beds for adults and paediatrics plus an extra 4 beds in maternity. The operating theatres perform 2-3 surgical lists each week with visiting surgeons.

The need for locum cover is from 8 October until 3 December then 24 December to 6 January. The service is manned by ongoing locums filling this role.  The average period locums work is for around 1-4 weeks, often longer.  The Kimberley is a fascinating place but quite remote – hence longer locums favoured.   Having said that we are at present flexible.

WACHS Kimberley will provide travel from residence to Derby, accommodation and a “pool” vehicle when at site.  We offer $2227.00 per day worked.

If you are interested in Kimberley locum work or have colleagues  or know of certain practitioners who may be, please do not hesitate to contact Iggy Zahl, Regional Medical Administration Coordinator on 08 9194 1614  or email KHR.medworkforce@health.wa.gov.au to discuss further.
